English Schools XC 2014

The 2014 English Schools Cross Country Championships saw our athletes achieve 1st Team status at Intermediate Girls, 2nd Team at both Senior Boys and Senior Girls and 3rd placed County at Junior Girls. Not surprisingly Surrey Girls finished Aggregate Team winners!

We would like to congratulate all athletes, coaches & parents who contributed to our success.  The Surrey spirit was very much evident with our athletes working so hard in their races all the way to the finish. In addition to our 3 Girls selected for International selection – Mollie O'Sullivan (JG 8th), Niamh Brown (IG 6th ) & Daisy D'Santos (IG 9th) the finishing power running from Rian McCawley (IB 35th), Jack Rowe (SB 9th), Tom Holden (SB 18th), Daniel Wallis (SB 42nd) and the amazing Phoebe Law (SG 7th) will long stay in the memory.  It was a great day of sporting stories to remember and certainly build upon.  Bring on Blackburn next year!

SCHOOLS INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS – 1ST FEBRUARY
We would like to congratulate the 83 athletes (and the support of their parents & coaches) who represented Surrey at the Inter Counties at Southampton. Although we await final results, each Surrey Team looks to have competed for the top team places (with few points separating final places) and our athletes showing the spirit, determination and training to suggest the major success is now just a step away.

Our Junior Girls saw our Surrey Champion Mollie O’Sullivan ranked 2nd in SE ENGLAND, with Claudia Lance Jones (4th) and Eugenie Cockle (6th) and Elsa Palmer (9th) catching the eye. The Junior Boys saw a storming finish from Harry Boyd (3rd Ranked in SE England) surge through and pass a quality field whilst Ollie Percival (9th) and Marcus Shantry (10th) also gained Top 10 ranked placing’s.

Our Intermediates (even without some of our top 6 Championships performers) delivered strong power runs from Pippa Monk (5th) and an almost perfect master class in tactical running from the power man Nathan Gibson ranked 2nd in SE ENGLAND. The value of experience was also shown in a quality 5th placing from the ever impressive Rian McCawley.

The final races in a tough day for weather and a shorter course saw Senior success built from confident and attacking running. Phoebe Law was simply majestic and today was rightly SE England's Champion athlete, whilst George Gathercole (8th position) was achieved by his early confident and attacking running. A day to prove that Surrey athletes should fear nobody and continue to follow their training plans to achieve their sporting dreams.

Note: Please do let us know if you have lost property (we have a couple of items) or have a Surrey vest still to return!
